Thornbury 5 Bristol 0

JEN Arnold’s Thornbury side at last managed to return to league action following two weeks when scheduled matches were frost affected.

A goal from Nicky Bruce within the first two minutes gave the home side the perfect start and the visitors never really recovered.

Megan Allen, Rosie Liddington and Laura Hayward made a number of well executed passing exchanges which allowed Jen Arnold and Izzy Hunter to feed the ball through to the strong running front runners, Poppy Woolnough and Lucy Woodruff.

Indeed, it was following a Megan McLachlan through ball that Lucy Woodruff scored Thornburys second goal, a lead they kept until the interval.

Alex Arnold was her usual livewire self, roaming all over the pitch and putting a number of well-placed passes into the D.

Thornbury started the second half well when Woodruff scored her second and Thornbury’s third goal.

The visitors continued to contribute to an entertaining game and were denied by some excellent saves by keeper Liz Jenkins and well timed interceptions by Elaine Arnold and Tess Wheatley.

Thornbury continued on the offensive and Nicky Bruce scored two further goals to achieve a well-deserved hat trick. Thornbury face a difficult game on Saturday at KLB School against Wotton-Under-Edge seconds on Saturday at 10am.

Meanwhile, a young Thornbury seconds side found Badminton too strong and went down 6-0 at Yate.

Sarah Brealey’s side face another tough match on Saturday when Wotton thirds are the visitors at Castle School at 10.30am.
