SOUTH Gloucestershire and Stroud College AASE boxer Bailey Phillips won the Western Counties ABA Youth Championship in Cheltenham.
The 16-year-old faced Baker Street Boxing Club's class operator Amali Davis. Fast aggressive combination punches saw Phillips take the first two rounds, and a strong third round from the Gloucester boxer saw the judge’s decision go to Phillips.
“I am over the moon” said Bailey from Downend Boxing Club. “Amali was so strong and I really had to work hard for the win, but am really pleased to be in the national quarter finals.”
Bailey now goes to the quarter finals to be staged at Rotherham's Magna Centre later this month.
Head of boxing Craig Turner said: “I am really please for Bailey. He trains so hard and it is a privilege to be able to facilitate the young people taking part in these competitions.”
