AFTER the mid season break, it was four wins from five for Thornbury Squash Club last week.

Thornbury A continued their recent good run of form by beating Lansdown A 16-6 to make it four wins in a row.

Jeremy Harris at number one string started the night off but suffered his first loss for Thornbury losing 3-0 to Luke Bishop. Brad Jenkins and Callum Davidson eased to victory both finishing with comfortable 3-0 wins.

Ryan Wilson and Matt Bedwell also both won their matches three games to one sealing the match for Thornbury who continue to close the gap ahead of their top of the table clash next week with Vivo.

Thornbury B travelled to Bath to play Lansdown B and picked up their second win of the season increasing the chances of Premier C survival. Dale Curtis was first on court but never really came to terms with his opponent and lost out 3-0.

Alex McMillan was quick out of the blocks racing to a 2-0 lead but was pegged back by his opponent and eventually lost 3-2. Mark Toseland got the ball rolling for Thornbury with a solid 3-1 win at number two string and Calum Davies-Smith won his match by the same scoreline after initially threatening to 'triple-bagel' his opponent by taking each of the first two sets 9-0.

The final game saw Chris Hutchence put in a sterling performance to win 3-0 and claim the match for Thornbury, the final score being 15-8.

Thornbury C team recorded their first win of the season this week despite being a man short.

All four players involved won their games with strong performances on the night, to record a 12-8 win overall against David Lloyd B. Cliff Hall won a tight match 3-2 at first string against a strong opponent, Steve Morley won 3-0 at 2nd string, Nigel Tovey came back from 0-2 down to win at 3rd string and Ian Talbot won 3-1 at fourth string.

A first win of the season for the C team moves them off the bottom of the league.

Thornbury D met with the current table toppers Landsdown D this week so it was always going to be a tough match. However, Pete Bowen and Nick Clifton were on form and both brought home 3-0 wins to start.

Colin Preece playing at number one string fought well and was well ahead in a couple of games but unfortunately his opponent got the better of him each time and the result a 3-0 loss for Colin.

Ian Johnson also failed to pick up any games so the match score was level at 2-2 when Nigel Ball stepped on court to play the final match. Both players were obviously feeling the pressure as there were several arguments with the marker which made it the most entertaining match of the night.

Nigel, however, did not let this get the better of him and provided the team with a 3-0 win leaving the final match score of 3-2 and a much needed 13 points for Thornbury.

Thornbury E suffered another defeat in division five with a 16-4 loss to Vivo. Paul Logan, playing for the first time in over a year, provided the only bright spot of the night with a 3-0 victory.

Matt Brown picked up a point in a 3-1 loss but that was as good as it got as the E's were overpowered.
