SEVERNSIDE Tritons completed their county championships in the final two sessions of individual events on February 25.

Golds were won by Jess Part in the 200m individual medley, Rachel Shutt in the 400m freestyle and Jake Garett in the 100m free, who also set a new championship age group record in the process.

Jess, at the age of 13, also achieved an overall fourth place in the 400m free, with Delphi Evans also making the top eight.

Other medalists on the day were Delphi Evans, Zac Cooper, Ethan Courts and Ben Platt who posted his first sub-one minute freestyle 100m.

This capped a superb Championships for the club with all swimmers achieving personal best times, and several new club records being set. The club now has 23 swimmers with qualifying times for the upcoming regional championships.

Particular highlights for the coaches over the competition were Lauren Shaw's silver medal in the 50m breaststroke, Ethan Courts' terrific individual championships picking up a total of nine medals, Jess Telford's performances following a long layoff from swimming, and Natalie Walsh winning a championship bronze.

Zac Cooper also lifted the Ray Clash Memorial Cup for his swim in the 100 individual medley earlier in the month to add to his impressive haul of medals.

The success of the club is, in no small part, due to the dedication and guidance of Head Coach David McCoubrie and Director of Coaching Keith Smith, who have overseen every race of the championships. Coaches Stephen Courts and Jon Fosbrook have also been at poolside along with a number of team managers who have all contributed to the achievements.

On Sunday the 26th, Tritons returned to Gloucester in abundance for the team championships, with up to two relay teams entered into several age group categories for both the girls and boys.

The morning session saw the age ten and under boys teams winning gold in both the freestyle and medley relays, featuring Alex Collin (freestyle), Noah De N'Yeart, and Jack Hopwood (breaststroke), who picked up their first county medals.

Some fiercely contested racing saw the girls 13-14 age group team receive silvers in both the freestyle and medley, whilst the 15-16 year girls also attained bronze in the free.

In the second session, the 10 and under girls team of Grace Bevan, Bethany Clarke, Rebecca McCoubrie and Caitlin Roberts joined the boys at the top of the podium with gold in the freestyle.

With the club able to field such a large squad of swimmers it enabled a number of younger swimmers to experience championship action for the first time, with all swimmers contributing to a terrific team atmosphere.
