Bristol U18 League North Division

St Nicholas 0 Thornbury Town 3

THORNBURY Town Under-18s travelled to play St Nicholas on another very windy Sunday afternoon and came away with another win and another 3 points and remained top of of the Bristol u18 North Division.

Thornbury started the match playing with strong wind behind them and they were on the front foot right from the start and were playing some great passing football.

They were rewarded early in the game when Jake Budd scored his eleventh goal of the season when he prodded home from close range.

The game was being played in the St Nicks half as the home team struggled to get out of their own half due to the quick high press being used by the visitors and playing against the strong wind.

Thorns went close after a good free kick by Felix Brittan was floated into the box but ball just eluded the run of Di Mauro and Budd and went straight through to the home keeper.

Thornbury extended their lead when Budd grabbed his second of the game after the ball broke to him inside the box and he smashed the ball home.

In a rare attack Ryan Tyler in Thorns goal was called into action when he had to be alert and make a good save and concede a corner which was cleared by Adam Barrow.

Thornbury were creating plenty chances but were guilty of wasting them with their shots going straight at the keeper or off target. Thornbury made it 3-0 shortly before the break when Dan O'Connor was fouled inside the box. O'Connor took the resulting penalty kick and converted confidently hard and low to the right.

The second half saw the visitors face the strong wind head on and knew this half would be different type of game to the first half. The visitors then lost their goalkeeper 10 mins into the second half when Tyler was forced off with a back injury.

Captain Sam Downes went in goal with Felix Brittan dropping into defence. Thorns were trying to get the ball down and play their passing game and they managed to create a couple of chances midway through the half but were again guilty of not taking them.

The home team failed to take advantage of the wind as Thornbury did in the first and rarely posed any threat on Thorns goal. Another good win for Thornbury as they look forward to their last game of the season home to a Wotton Rovers on April 2nd kick off 2pm.
