DAN Davis hit 78, added a few wickets and Danny Slade struck 46 as they paved the way for Thornbury to score a great win at Chippenham in their West of England Premier League Premier Two Glos/Wilts clash last weekend.

Thornbury won the toss and chose to bat first at Hardenhuish Park but lost opener Marcus Wormwell for two with the score on 24.

But Davis and number three Josh Slade linked up to take the score to 89 before Slade was trapped lbw for 17.

Davis kept plodding on and, after Vishal Mamgai (ten) went, he was eventually out for 78 having hit 13 fours in 72 balls with the score on 115.

Luke Davis departed for six and Sam Summerfield went first ball, but Danny Slade took up the mantle and hit his runs in 61 balls before he was run out.

The tail failed to wag, with Jack Gillett (15) the only one of the last five to reach double figures as Thornbury ended on 193 all out from 45.2 overs.

In reply, Chippenham struggled from the start. They lost the top three for few runs as two were caught from the bowling of Luke Franklin and another was run out.

The rest of the Chippenham batting also found the Thornbury bowling on great form as the home side stuttered from 33-3 to 43-4 and 66-6 before a partnership between Ollie Slade and Paul Bates kept them going and took them to 155 before Slade was caught by Summerfield off Luke Davis’ bowling for fifty.

And when Bates was trapped lbw by Dan Davis for 38, it put Chippenham on 160-8 and down to the bowlers.

Luke and Dan Davis mopped up the tail-enders for just a single run as the home side finished on 163 all out in 40.3 overs for a satisfying Thornbury victory.

l Thornbury seconds went down to Gloucestershire County League Division Two defeat at The Ship Field to Hatherley and Reddings seconds on Saturday.

Thornbury opener David Hammond hit a magnificent 132 in 118 balls in a total of 263.

But steady batting in reply took Hatherley over the line.
