Rockhampton 1st XI beat Gloucester City Winget by 49 runs.

AN unbeaten century from Will Tyler ensured Rockhampton bounced back after last weeks defeat with a convincing victory over Gloucester City Winget at The Boundary Field.

Spence yet again loss the toss but was only too happy to be asked to bat first and what appeared to be a vintage Jerry White batting deck but the hosts couldn't have got off to a worse start as Matt Tyler (1), Richard Howell (4) and Jamie Wakefield (3) were all dismissed inside the first four overs to leave a shell shocked Rockhampton on 20-3.

The precarious state of the innings didn't seem to have any impact on Tristan de Beer who had watched all three men fall as he carried on playing his natural game, finding the boundary rope with regularity as he and Will Tyler went about rebuilding the innings.

Tyler played sensibly and second fiddle to Tristan who played beautifully for his 61 off just 53 balls that included ten boundaries before he departed with the score on 112.

Guy Brothwood joined Tyler at the crease and it was this partnership worth 122 which ultimately won the game for the hosts as Brothwood dominated the bowling from ball one on his way to a chanceless 69 from just 58 balls to put Rockhampton in a strong position to post a score of around three hundred.

Jordan Khan (23) and Willoughby (3 not out) both played selflessly but it was Will Tyler who stole the show, being the glue of the innings with a superb 107 Not Out from 143 balls including 13 boundaries as Rockhampton finished on 295-6 from their fifty overs.

In response, Gloucester City struggled against the new ball pairing of Wakefield and Cartlidge as five maidens were bowled in the first ten overs with the score just 17-1 at this stage and the required rate now up towards eight an over.

Willoughby (2-47), McCabe (1-38) and Khan (2-24) all chipped in with crucial mid-innings wickets but it was the number eight batsman, Alex Nel who would prove to be the danger man as he came in and smashed seven sixes on his way to a 31 ball 68 before being caught by Carltidge off the bowling of Khan (2-24) but his incredible hitting had taken Gloucester onto 231 and with a sniff of winning but Wakefield (3-43) and Cartlidge (2-39) returned to finish the game off, bowling Gloucester out for 246 and leaving them 49 runs short.

Next week, Rockhampton host Burbage & Easton Royal at The Boundary Field, 12:30 start.
