Thornbury fourth team news

AFTER two games without a win Thornbury fourths made the short trip to Kellaway Avenue to take on YMCA.

Skip lost the toss again and was invited to bat on a damp pitch. Thorns were buoyed by Pete Wheeler in the line-up and he immediately showed his opening partner, young Ollie Nash, how to despatch anything short to all parts of Bishopston.

The two put on 74 for the first wicket with Ollie's 16 a handy contribution.

Wickets then began to tumble in familiar fashion as Rimmer, Riggs junior, Halliwell all fell and Riggs senior sacrificed his wicket as he fended off a popper to the wicketkeeper.

Wheeler finally fell for a crucial 79 replaced by son Harrison who hit a couple of boundaries in his 13 and Skip added 28 with five fours to add some momentum at the end and Thorns ended on a much healthier 189 in a reduced 35 overs.

The youngsters set about defending the total with the little pocket assassins Josh Rimmer and Alex Riggs bowled line and length and by the end of the 8th over YMCA were behind the clock with Riggs and son combining for the first wicket caught behind.

Wheeler junior and Greg Messer the continued the squeeze and although I've seen Harrison bowl better, when he got his length right he had too much for the batting and finished with three wickets.

Messer added a wicket to his usual miserly spell and by half way with the score at 67 for 5 the chase was off, and YMCA dropped anchor.

Skip added one more as the home team finished on 114 for 6.
