CASTLE School students went on their 11th tour last month which was hosted by PGL Liddington in Wiltshire.

There were four teams on the tour with six staff.

Under cloudy morning skies, the Year Seven and Eight teams set a high standard by winning all their matches.

In the afternoon, Year Nine won two, drew one and lost one, whilst Year Ten won one, drew one and lost two.

The second day’s cool and cloudy conditions helped Year Seven stay on track with two wins.

The other three teams all won one and lost one apiece, seeing Years Seven, Eight and Ten progress to the semi-finals.

Harriet Fletcher, PE teacher at Castle School, said: “The Year Eight semi-final against Wokingham Netball Club went into nail-biting extra-time.

“Our players responded to the pressure well but the winning goal was scored by the opposition thirty seconds before the final whistle, with a 2-1 win to them.

“The Year 10 semi-final match was another brilliant game, but our opponents pulled away towards the end of the match.”

The Castle Year Seven team made it to the finals against Woodlands School.

At half-time during their final match, they were drawing, but Woodlands went into the lead in the very last stages; the eventual result was 7-9 to them.

Kellie Hull, of England’s Under 21 netball squad handed out the medals, inspiring every participant. Castle School also recognised their own students with ‘Best Player’ awards for Katie Kenyon (GD) in Year Seven, Amy Mawby (GA) in Year Eight, Freya Plimbley (GD) in Year Nine and Anna Prince (WA) in Year Ten.

Harriet added: “Remaining motivated, overcoming obstacles and striving to excel, they were fantastic representatives for Castle School, symbolic of the school’s values of high standards of work, behaviour and achievement.”
