THE FIRST big derby of the season between Rockhampton and Thornbury ended up being a one-sided affair as Rockhampton ran out comfortable winners in front of a large crowd at a sunny Boundary Field.

Thornbury captain Luke Davis won the toss and elected to have a bat first but it was the opening spells from Will Cartlidge and Chris Willoughby which set the tone for the day and ultimately won the game for the hosts.

Both struck early with Cartlidge removing the dangerous Dan Davis caught at slip by Tristan de Beer for just nine and Willoughby removing Marcus Wormwell and Josh Slade cheaply to reduce the visitors to 27-3.

What followed was an exhibition of control and accuracy from the impressive Willoughby as he finished his ten over spell with five consecutive maidens to finish with the remarkable figures of 10-7-12-2.

Dave McCabe was then introduced into the attack and he removed Vishal Mamgai (13) caught behind by Jack Spence and the dangerous Luke Davis (31), trapping him in front of all three stumps as he claimed 2-29 from his ten.

From 76-5, Thornbury were able to offer a little fightback as they got after the spin bowling of Guy Brothwood (1-53) but it was the return of Cartlidge that put an end to any resistance.

He blew away the tail end in his second spell to claim 5-29 from his ten overs to dismiss Thornbury for just 163.

In response, Rockhampton got off to their now traditional shaky start as Tom Bradley (2-24) struck twice early on to remove de Beer (12) and Richard Howell (0).

But this just brought the Tyler brothers together and the pair looked at total ease throughout, running well between the wickets and punishing anything loose as the pair put on 106 for the third wicket before Will Tyler was removed by Mamgai (1-19) for sixty from 82 balls that included nine boundaries.

Brothwood joined Matt Tyler at the crease and the pair saw Rockhampton home in just the 42nd over with Matt Tyler fittingly hitting the winning runs to end unbeaten on 55 whilst Brothwood also impressed with an unbeaten 21 to see Rockhampton move into fourth position.

This weekend, Rockhampton travel to second placed Goatacre on Saturday before hosting Corse and Staunton in the regional final of the National Village Cup on Sunday, 1pm start.
