ALMONDSBURY'S good run of form continued on Saturday with a convincing 110 run win over Winterbourne.
Batting first, the home side built their innings steadily as 65 runs came off the first 20 overs losing two wickets in the process. However, the remaining 25 overs were a different story as Dan Dunt 32, Matt Wood 36, and Mike Perham 49 made constructive contributions towards the Almondsbury total but it was once again Aaron Jones bludgeoning 25 off the final over setting a competitive challenge of 234-6 with Jones himself finishing undefeated on 48.
Andrews 9-2-1-14 and Studley 3-47 were Winterbourne’s most destructive bowlers.
In reply, Winterbourne began well and were well in contention at 82-1 off 19 overs. However, some quality fielding by Almondsbury changed the game. Blackwell was run out going for a second run as Kyle Hartigan swooped in from deep square sending a flat throw over the stumps for keeper Grute to whip off the bails swifty.
This was followed by skipper Garth Jackson running round from deep mid off to take a fine diving catch to dismiss Ford off of Andy Parkinson’s leg spin. Winterbourne soon folded and were all out for 124. Frost (51) being the main run scorer for the visitors.
Chet Persaud 4-2-12-3 and Andy Parkinson 6.4-0-29-4 were the main wicket takers and were well backed up by Garth Jackson 8-1-26-1 and Mike Frothy 6-0-29-1.
