West of England Premier League Prem 2 Glos/Wilts division

Rockhampton 221-8 lost to Westbury & District 225-6 by four Wkts.

ROCKHAMPTON suffered their fourth defeat of the season on Saturday as for the first time this season they were completely outclassed by the opposition.

The feeling among the players after the game is that they had just loss to the champions elect.

Having won a toss for a change, Spence elected to bat and the hosts got off to a solid if unspectacular start as Westbury bowled superbly with the new ball and throughout in fairness as they remarkably didn't bowl a single wide in fifty overs.

Rockhampton recorded their first fifty opening stand of the season as de Beer threatened to cut loose with an enormous six before being caught at mid-on for 30.

Matt Tyler was batting beautifully at the other end and all he needed was a partner but sadly Rockhampton lost wickets at key moments, just as batsmen were getting in as Brothwood (13), Wakefield (3), Will Tyler (11) and Howell (12) all came and went.

This didn't seem to phase Matt as he carried on his merry away pass fifty and with support from Khan (23) the hosts were suddenly able to look at posting a score of around two hundred.

Matt then kicked into another gear and was the sole reason Rockhampton posted 221-8 as he carried his bat for a superb unbeaten 112 from 152 balls that included fifteen boundaries.

In response, Westbury got off to a shaky start as they soon found themselves 36-3 courtesy of Nichols (1-31) and Khan (2-19) that involved an unbelievable catch at first slip by de Beer.

However these early wickets didn't have any impact on how positive the Westbury batsmen played and the target of 222 was never in doubt despite plenty of hard work from Rockhampton both with the ball and in the field.

Victory target was reached in the 46th over and the four wicket winning margin flattered an outplayed Rockhampton side who now find themselves fifth in the league.

This weekend, Rockhampton host Cheltenham on Saturday, 12:30pm start at The Boundary Field and on Sunday they travel to Oxfordshire to take on Aston and Rowant CC in the last 16 of The National Village Knockout Cup.
