THORNBURY thirds travelled to Nailsea last weekend, looking for a positive response from last week’s defeat.

Skipper Moore won the toss and elected to field. The new ball was given to Price (8-3-1-22) and McWhinnie (8-0-1-22 ).

Both of which bowled with excellent accuracy and length and created good pressure on the batsmen this was also backed up with good fielding. Brother Stuart McWhinnie was brought into the attack and bowled with good pace and bounce and caused all sorts of problems for the batsmen (8-1-0-31).

Skipper Moore turned to Harrison Wheeler for some spin and proved to be effective. Wheeler bowled with good flight and picked up three wickets in quick succession. He finished on figures of (8-0-3-35).

Nailsea struggled to assert themselves on their innings and good spells from Choughule and Blick also made this difficult. Nailsea finished on 159-6, opening batsmen Hopkinson scoring 87 of those runs.

Choughule and Weeks took to the crease after tea and it became apparent Weeks didn't intend on staying late. Weeks hit an entertaining 52 of 28 balls before seeing his leg stump removed from their opening bowler. His innings put Thornbury in the driving seat from the off.

Further contributions from the ever reliable Choughule (36*) Humphries (29) and Pete Wheeler (33*) took the 3's across the finish line.

Thornbury's 3rd XI host Bedminster CC at Tockington Manor next week hoping to close the gap further between them and Timsbury
