OLVESTON and District Bowling Club hosted a friendly match with Portishead Bowling Club last Sunday.

Ten rinks faced off, trying hard to outplay each other to win bottles of wine for the highest scoring rink.

At the halfway mark, it was an even game with everyone enjoying bowling in the glorious sunshine while keeping a close eye on how their score compared across the rinks.

At the end, it was an Olveston rink skipped by Doreen Whitehart who came out on top and went home with the wine.

The overall score proved to be an exciting finish as well with the final score being a draw, 98-98.

"In my six years of playing bowls, I've never been involved in a game with such a high score and ending up a draw" said George Norris, Portishead captain.

"It's been a great day and once again, Olveston have made us very welcome".

Olveston Sunday captain Sue Harris was on hand to present Doreen Whitehart, Grace Moore, John Paton and Ken Leach with their prize.

"What a day it has been" said Sue. "Every time we play Portishead, it always ends up a close game but today has put the icing on the cake, it couldn't get any closer.

"It's great to see the teams not only being interested in their own game but with the added incentive, keeping tabs on how their peers are doing".
