A CENTURY partnership between Jamie Wakefield and Tristan De Beer steered Rockhampton 1st XI to victory in a rain affected match against Biddestone 1st XI.

Earlier the Rams had restricted Biddestone to 210-7 in their 50 overs despite a brilliant century from Dwaine Perry.

Biddestone won the toss and elected to bat on a typically good surface at The Boundary Field.

They started their innings in a positive fashion with Perry looking comfortable at the wicket and Chris Baker looking solid at the crease.

However, Baker was first to fall for just eight runs when he edged behind a Chris Willoughby delivery which was smartly taken by Jack Spence.

Joshua Boulton (21) and Andy Flynn (26) provided good support for Perry as Biddestone moved themselves into a good position.

However, the visitors began to stutter, losing wickets at regular intervals with James Hancox bowling particularly well.

Perry remain unnerved by the regular loss of wickets and he went on to make 118 off 145 balls with 11 fours and two sixes.

Biddestone’s total of 210 looked competitive but very gettable for the Rams. The hosts reply did not get off to the start they were looking for, losing Matt Tyler for just four runs early on and Guy Brothwood falling for eight a short while later.

De Beer joined Wakefield at the wicket and the game began to turn in the Rams favour.

Wakefield played the anchor role, scoring 60 not out off 120 deliveries, while De Beer was the aggressor scoring 73 in 84 deliveries including seven fours and one six. With the score 164-3 off 40.4 overs the rain began to fall and the umpires had no choice but to take the players off the field.

When play was abandoned at 7.02pm Rockhampton were declared the winners by 17 runs on a revised Duckworth Lewis target of 147.

The victory sees the Rams move into fourth place, 29 points away from Goatacre who sit in top spot of the West of England Premier League Glos/Wilts Division.

Rockhampton 2nd XI eased to comfortable victory over Frocester 3rd XI away from home.

Led by Chris Pearce and Matt Taylor the Rams blew away the Frocester batting line-up, bundling them out for just 138.

Pearce and Taylor claimed three wickets each, while Will Cullimore took two for himself and Will Brisco and Davis Newcombe did earned one apiece.

The visitors took little time in knocking off the winning runs, Cullimore leading the charge with an entertaining unbeaten 64.
