ONCE again Nick Gore overcame all that the course and weather could throw at him to secure the Seniors Championship at Thornbury Golf Club last week.

The Marlwood course was in great condition for the two day competition but apart from those at the top of the leader-board overall scores on day one did not reflect the relatively benign conditions.

Strong winds and rain made things much more difficult for the second round with many players finding their balls veering into the punishing rough.

However both Gore with a two round gross score of 149 (just 7 over par) and John Stubbs who took the Nett Championship with 141 mastered the conditions with aplomb.

Other gross prize winners included Jeff Stott (176), Alan Fisher (176) and Dave Hopkins(180).

The Nett competition was more closely contested with Ray Lemin runner up with 144 followed by David Holliday 145 and Tony Byrne 152.

The best second day Nett score not otherwise winning a prize went to Mike Robinson with a fine 75.
