THORNBURY Town’s plans for the new season were disrupted when Reserve team manager Matt Lansdown advised the club that due to work and family commitments he would not be able to continue in that role for the coming season.

The club would like to thank Matt, and his father Brian who assisted him last season, for their time and efforts over the last couple of seasons.

Matt helped the Reserves to a successful Stroud League campaign last year and only just missed out on promotion to Division 2.

The club see the position of Reserves manager as incredibly important to the development of their Under 18 players, creating a pathway into senior football.

Applications are invited from any interested parties and they are asked to contact Club Secretary Mike Pengelly in the first instance on 07970 009132 or by email pengelly.mike@gmail.com.

Meanwhile the first team drew 2-2 at Hallen in the latest of their pre-season friendlies.

The home side took the lead early on and after Nathan Irwin hit the bar with a header on 20 minutes, Will Howard equalised for the Thorns five minutes later when he scored from a tight angle.

Jim Brock gave Town the lead with a long range effort 15 minutes from time but Hallen grabbed an equaliser in the last couple of minutes.

The County League fixtures for the new season have now been released and Thorns start their campaign with a home fixture v Henbury on Saturday, August 5 followed by an away game at Frampton United next week.
