Almondsbury v Frampton Cotterell

RETIRED Almondsbury coach Brian Corbett commenced his 80th birthday celebrations in fine style as he witnessed some of his protégés help bring Almondsbury to victory in a closely fought affair.

Frampton Cotterell batted first in the rain-restricted contest and posted a challenging 150-7 off 34 overs.

Luke Baker (24), Alexander Broomgrove (45) and Sam Coleman, undefeated on 38, helped set a creditable total for the visitors whilst the bowling figures were Aaron Jones 7-1-25-1, Mike Frolich 8-2-23-1, Chet Persaud 6-0-29-2 and Andy Parkinson 7-0-32-3.

In reply, the home side lost three early wickets cheaply but Jack Kewley (29) and Dan Dunt (32) brought Garth Jackson’s side back into the game. However, at 136-5 off 23 overs Almondsbury collapsed to 146-9.

Skipper Garth Jackson then strode to the wicket to bring calm to the turmoil, waited for the bad ball, and despatched it through the covers to bring his side victory by one wicket and keep Almondsbury in touch for promotion.

Brendan Foreman 7-1-27-2, Rana Zaman 1-41, Thomas Howell 2-42, Sam Coleman 8-0-28-3 and Paul Newton 2-0-7-1 all endeavoured well for Frampton.
