Portishead 2nds v Almondsbury 2nds

ALMONDSBURY'S run of good form continued on Saturday when they demolished Portishead by 148 runs in a rain restricted contest of 35 overs.

Batting first, Almondsbury started well as opener Kulvinder Sappall put the bowling to the sword.

He had scored 47 off 36 deliveries before being LBW to Bache.

Burgess soon fell to Bache but Gary Goodwin found a willing partner in Guy Long and the scoring rate continued to rise.

Goodwin eventually fell for a well constructed 58.

Long, though, continued to flourish eventually finishing undefeated on 62 as the Almondsbury innings closed on 206-5. Richard Bache 7-1-25-2 and Nick Webb 4-0-17-2 being the successful Portishead bowlers.

In reply, the home side were never in with a shout as the Almondsbury bowlers seized the initiative.

Kavi Ferrari (5-2-3-1) bowled with raw pace as Chris Slade (7-1-13-1) kept a tight control from the other end.

They then gave way to Matt Smith (6-0-22-0) who bowled with little luck whilst Souvik Saha (3-2-3-2) used a constructive approach.

But it was the welcome return of Dean Map who directed the visitors home completing a fine spell of 6.3-0-16-5.

This puts Almondsbury in third in the league with a definite chance of promotion.
