A TEAM of three Thornbury runners joined over 600 runners at the Westonbirt House Summer 10k on Friday evening.

The course winds around the grounds of Westonbirt estate, over gravel tracks and fields, before using up the last reserves of the competitor’s energy to scale up the steps in front of Westonbirt House to the finish line.

Nick Langridge put on another dominating performance in the V60 age category and probably had time to admire the famous trees around the course, such was his winning margin.

His time of 43:52mins was almost three minutes faster than the next V60 runner and 45th overall.

Sean Underwood was next to scale the steps to the finish in a time of 44:44 in 57th place, followed by Janet Gaze in 427th overall and 211th female in 1:03:14mins.

There were only three Thornbury parkrunners last weekend and all at Chipping Sodbury.

Kevin Wood was back for his second run in successive weekends and improved on his last outing to record a time of 22:43mins and 55th place.

Malcolm Carr was next in 25:25mins and Karen was only two seconds outside her best performance in 25:50mins.

Their finishing positions were 103rd and 110th (23rd female) respectively.

Thornbury Running Club welcomes all levels of runners and a new beginners group started on Tuesday at 7pm from the back car park of Thornbury Leisure Centre. The course will run until end of September.
