Gloucestershire County League

Stonehouse Town 0 Thornbury Town 4

AFTER their exit from the GFA Challenge Trophy last Wednesday evening against Toolstation Western League Roman Glass St George, Thornbury Town made the short journey to Stonehouse Town in the Gloucestershire County League and came away with all three points following a 4-0 win.

They took the lead as early as the 6th minute from a Toby Bennett pass that split the home defence allowing Craig Lancastle in to score.

Town dominated proceedings for the next 15 minutes and it was no surprise when they scored a second after 18 minutes when Scott McLeod picked the ball up in his own half following a cleared corner, pushed forward and from thirty yards out struck an unstoppable shot into the far top corner of the net.

However the home side got themselves back in the game and Rennolds had a chance to pull a goal back on 25 minutes but Tom Sheppard, returning after a long injury lay-off pulled off a great save.

Stonehouse had a great opportunity to pull a goal back on 30 minutes when they were awarded a penalty. However Lee Keveren’s spot kick saw Sheppard pull off another great save.

The second half saw the home side continue to press forward and Brodie had his header saved by Sheppard and a couple of minutes later Jones hit the crossbar.

However Thorns scored again on 65 minutes when Asher Budd’s first shot hit the post, but he followed up and steered the rebound into the net.

Stonehouse continued to press but Sheppard continued his sparkling form with two more good saves, firstly to deny Keveren and then King.

However it was Town who had the last word when firstly Budd hit the post again and then another superb through ball from Toby Bennett found Craig Lancastle who slotted home his second of the game.

Thorns will be hoping to maintain this winning run when they entertain Rockleaze Rangers on Saturday, kick off 3pm at the Mundys.
