Thornbury Ladies 1sts 2 BAC 2nds 1

THORNBURY Ladies first team deservedly won a tough match against a combative BAC seconds side on Saturday.

The young home side started confidently and took the lead after just six minutes when captain Nicky Bruce continued her splendid scoring form when guiding the ball home following some pleasing interpassing between Anna Prince and Poppy Woolnough .

Alex Arnold, in her first appearance of the season, gave a livewire performance and Megan Allen was a powerful influence in midfield for the home side.

Also Megan McLachlan, Melinda Evans and Yasmin Banfield were prominent for the home team, contributing numerous well-judged passes to their front running colleagues.

The visitors were denied a goal early in the second-half when keeper Sara Newman made an excellent save.

However, a few moments later, the Thornbury stopper was well beaten by a powerful shot from a short corner that went thumping into her goal. Play see-sawed from end-to-end from there, with both sides having chances to score a goal.

The young Thornbury side, however, battled hard and finally managed to go in front and leave opponents trailing with the match-winning goal.

Bruce was in a perfect position to strike the ball past the keeper.

Elaine Arnold and Carys Allen, along with Lu-Lu Taylor and Rosie Liddington, effectively dealt with any visiting attempts to equalise to enable Thornbury to remain unbeaten with three wins. Thornbury visit Pucklechurch on Saturday at Winterbourne Academy with an unusual start time of 10.10am.
