Thornbury U14 3 Westbury/Utd Banks 0

THE AVON Junior Hockey League got off to a great start for the Thornbury Under-14 team.

They took on Westbury and United Banks in the Under-14 Girls Plate Competition, South Division, at The University of the West of England.

It was the first time the girls had played together as a team and for some it was the first time playing a competitive 11 a-side match for the club.

The first-half saw Thornbury dominate possession with some strong mid field play from Rosie Williams, Summer Johnson, Felicity Keel, Jasmine Maskell and Kate Willson.

Captain Megan Rigby and Katie Shutt created some great opportunities and were unlucky not to score.

A crucial save by Hannah Eastaugh-Waring in goal at the end of the first half meant that the teams went into the break level at 0-0.

In the second half the dominant possession paid off with two goals from Elspeth Ashton and one from Talia Curtis.

Strong defence from Grace Attkinson, Izzy Wyres and Lucy Vizard ensured a clean sheet with the final score 3-0 Thornbury.

The next under-14 match will be on the November 12 at 1pm against Firebrands B. The under-16s first league match will be on November 19 against Wotton Under Edge.
