Thornbury Town Under-18s 3 Longwell Green 1

THORNBURY Town U18s kept the undefeated start to the season intact as the deservingly ran out 3-1 winner at home to Longwell Green.

Thorns started the match playing into a strong wind. The early exchanges were even as both teams got to grips with the conditions but eventually the home team began to get on top.

Thorns had the first chance of the game after some great build up play down the left by Ollie Thorne saw the ball fall to Thorns strike Denym Di Mauro but his effort was sliced wide if the goal.

The home team were dictating the game now and they tools the lead after a break away attack saw the Ollie played in on goal who kept his composure to slit the ball through the keepers legs.

As the half drew to a close the visitors were getting back into the game and they drew level after some sloppy defending saw their striker slot the ball home.

Thorns came out expecting to play with the wind behind them but the wind had dropped dramatically during the break but this didn’t stop the home team starting the stronger as they used both flanks to great effect causing Longwell Greens player a lot of problems.

Thorns regained the lead after a flowing move down the right saw a great cross from Mike Tanner converted by Tom Cornock. Thornbury were now in confident mood and were passing the ball around well but were falling down at the final hurdle.

They did extend their lead when they were award a penalty when Thornbury’s Ollie Thorne was felled in the box.

From the resulting kick Denym Di Mauro calmly slotted ball home hard and low to the left of the keeper.

The last 15 minutes became a niggly affair with the visitors frustrations boiling over at times.

Longwell Green nearly pulled a goal back when their striker was played through into a one on one with Sam Blunden in Thorns goal and it was the home keeper who came out on top with a fine save.

A dominant performance from the home team and a good 3-1 win.
