Perpetua Press Hellenic League Floodlit Cup Round One

Tytherington Rocks 0 Easington Sports 9

HIGH-flying Easington Sports were the visitors to the Hardwicke Field for the first round of the Perpetua Press Hellenic League Floodlit Cup.

After the first 15 mins, the final result was never in doubt with the away team scoring nine without reply.

Although both keepers were involved in those opening minutes, it was the home keeper, Vytas Jelinskas, who lived the charmed life bringing off two or three point blank saves.

Sadly his luck ran out after 11 minytes when a shot ricoched off his left hand post, hit his back and opened the scoring for Easington.

The visitors striker, Andrew Stidder, increased their lead when, after some tricky footwork, he took his time to claim the team's second on 18 mins.

Nathaniel Lewers dribbled through the Rocks penalty area to drive home a powerful shot for number a minute later.

The home defence had a brief respite before Antoni Torres (27 mins) added Easington's 4th and within a minute had netted his second, an easy tap-in (28 mins) following a strong run by Lewars. Lewars himself bagged a second on 39mins, Easington's sixth.

The 6-0 scoreline at half-time could have been higher had the visitors converted all their chances, despite the usual endeavours by the home team.

The second period began more evenly, whether as a result of the visitors taking their feet off the pedal or of Rocks renewing their determination. It was the 62min before the seventh goal of the game arrived, courtesy of Charlie Hill.

On 70 mins, the hardworking Rocks keeper pulled of a full stretch save to his right, forcing a corner.

The corner crossed the pitch,a defensive challenge resulted in a free kick and George Coombs finished off for number eight

The pressure from Easington was creating one way traffic, aided and abetted by numerous stray passes from the Rocks. George Coombs claimed his second, and Easington's ninth and final goal with a delicate header on 72 mins.

Another heavy defeat suffered by a team whose commitment has never been in doubt, but a team that is finding the rigours of Hellenic League football hard to master.

Rocks play North Leigh United in the Hellenic League Division One West today at 3pm and will also be at home to Cirencester Town Development on November 11 kick-off 3pm.
