Broadwell Amateurs 2 Thornbury Town 0

BROADWELL Amateurs dented Thornbury Town’s challenge for the Gloucestershire County League title by taking the three points with a 2-0 win on Saturday.

It means Thornbury are now only a point ahead of second-placed Lebeq United, who crushed Southmead CS Athletic 8-0 and have three points in hand on Town.

Not a lot happened in a pretty dull first 45 minutes, the only action to speak about was a great save by home keeper Jamie Merry from Thornbury striker Craig Lancastle.

The fireworks started in the second-half when the home side almost went ahead in the 46th minute but for a great save by the Thornbury keeper. Broadwell went ahead on 53 minutes when the visitors defence failed to clear a home attack the loose ball fell to Harry Williams to fire home.

Ian Thomas was guilty of missing to glorious chance to put the home side clear before the second goal came on 65 minutes with some good interchanging of passes before the ball was laid on for Williams who had his first shot saved but followed-up to tuck the rebound away.
