ON Sunday, a busload of over twenty of Thornbury Running Club’s finest headed down the M5 and into the South Devon countryside for the Bicton Blister, a 10 mile off-road race.

Dylan Robert’s extra work on the track is starting to reap its rewards and he was the club’s first finisher in 28th place in a speedy one hour 9:33mins.

Not far behind, Rob Watkins was taking a short break from a busy period growing Christmas trees in Rockhampton as he finishing in 34th place overall in one hour 10:45 mins.

Dave Beard was next 60th in one hour 15:50 mins.

Taryn Roberts spearheaded a great performance from the ladies team.

Taryn was fifth female and 63rd overall in one hour 16:28 mins.

The ladies team were second overall and second in the vets competition.

Jo Plumbley was in the top one hundred in 98th place in one hour 20:45 mins.

The third TRC lady was Clare Watt, who was 150th and third in the competitive VF55 category in one hour 25:34 mins.

Other results from the team were Rob Hopkins 118th one hour 23:08 mins, Emma Barnes 165th and second VF35 one hour 27:31 mins, Ian Evans one hour 27:55 mins and Chris Foley 185th and second V65 one hour 29:51 mins.

Steve Dimond was home in 219th one hour 32:58 mins, Kevin Cundy 230th one hour 34:32 mins, Hugh McPherson 232nd one hour 34:41 mins, Angela Bushell 236th one hour 34:53 mins, Mike Bennewitz 271st 1one hour 39:01 mins, Jerry Clothier 275th one hour 39:40 mins, Sarah Newnes 280th one hour 39:51 mins, Maite Roche 286th one hour 40:38 mins, Malcolm Carr 288th one hour 40:50 mins, and Judy Mills kept club captain Pete Mainstone company in 343rd and 344th place in one hour 46:33 mins.

After the pomp and ceremony of the inaugural Thornbury parkrun last weekend, it was still an encouraging number of participants – 170 in total – who made it to the start line for the second running.

Martyn Green has shaken off a lingering foot injury and is back in training, he finished in third place in 21:13 mins.

Jonathan Greenwood was home in 24:01 mins in 16th place, and Sean Underwood in 24:06 mins.

In the same event, Martin Coyle was 33rd 25:49 mins, Anthony Yates 49th 27:14 mins, David Palmer 65th 28:26 mins, Suzanne Cundy 90th 31:37 mins, Anne Palmer 120th 34:21 mins, Lucy Taylor 125th 35:07 mins, Peter Blenkiron 129th 35:28 mins, Carina Cobb 41:10 mins and Colette Jackson 49:52 mins.

Long time TRC member, John Grimsey, retired to Weston Super Mare and has been assisting some local runners. In a pace making capacity, John ran the 5 mile West Prom Run in 53:41 mins in 339th place and guided his runner to a new personal best.
