IN a bid to secure the Premier A championship, Thornbury A played host to a re-enforced Westbury David Loyd A side who had their own battle for survival to think of.

With Thornbury's number one and two string players both absent it was set to be a difficult night for the league leaders.

Calum Davidson made a good account of himself but fell at the feet of the world number 40, Youseff Soloman, losing 3-0.

Ryan Wilson kept the game alive with an impressive 3-1 win followed by a hard fought 3-2 victory for Thornbury's only remaining unbeaten player Craig Webb. New starter Andy Whitall faced a tough opponent in his first match for the club losing 3-0.

With the match in the balance captain Brad Jenkins fought hard but was eventually out foxed and lost his match 3-1.

Thornbury A lost for the first time since the opening day of the season 15-7 and now carry a 15 point lead in the league into the final two games.

Thornbury B travelled to Redland to try and make amends to their first 3-2 loss encounter.

In form "man of the match" Alex McMillan totally annihilated his competitive opponent 27-4 in some of the best squash witnessed in a long time. Justin Edwards' and Mark Toseland's poor seasons continued with 1-3 and 0-3 losses respectively.

Thornbury's Mr Reliable stalwart, Rob Livingstone showed the rest of the team what to do with a strong 3-0 win.

Alex Hall put on a good display against a top 60 ranked player but went down 3-0 resulting in another 3-2 loss against Redland.

With two matches to go it will be a touch and go situation for Thornbury B to remain in the third tier out of eleven divisions in the league but naturally will give it their best shot!

Thornbury C team were light on numbers, only four players available, but nonetheless travelled to Portishead to play Gordano's A team where court conditions were positively arctic.

Cliff Hall, feeling weary from his long drive from Yorkshire in wintery conditions, went on first at position one and surprised everyone, including himself, by winning 3-0. Dale Curtis, at number two string, also made good use of the cold courts winning 3-1.

Ian Johnson at 3 failed to win any games losing 3-0 whilst Viv Bailey-Gard was looking promising, going 2-1 up but eventually losing 3-2. Overall a narrow loss for Thornbury.

Thornbury D Team hosted Redwood Phoenix in what was expected to be another close match.

Thornbury’s seed one Nick Clifton wore his opponent down with his usual astounding court coverage winning 3-1.

Graham Dono at seed five outplayed his more experienced opponent, driving him into the rear corners of the court before daintily placing the ball in the front corners ensuring a 3-1 win.

Thornbury’s number three Mark Dalziel’s tie was a controversial affair with numerous arguments and a marker change, however that didn't stop Mark going down 3-1.

Colin Preece initially struggled to come to terms with his opponent’s casual style, however once he got to grips with it a 3-1 victory soon followed. With the match already in the bag, Pete Bowen at seed two went 2-0 and seemed on course for a win, however his opponent rallied and came out with a 3-2 win.

The match finished with a 16-9 win for Thornbury which sees them move into third position in the table.
