AFTER last week’s slight hiccup in the title race, Thornbury A played host to Lansdown A who had a battle of their own to keep their place in the top division. With the title at stake it was a must- win game for Thornbury who have Redland hot on their heels.

With captain Brad Jenkins on duty for the second team, vice captain Sam Davidson took charge and started the night by playing the number two ranked player in Bristol, Roshan Bharos, suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat.

Younger brother Calum then stepped up and levelled the tie with a hard fought 3-1 victory.

Jeremy Harris returned to the team with a superb 3-0 win giving Thornbury A the upper hand.

In-form Ryan Wilson then came through against a tricky opponent dispatching him 3-0 and securing the bonus points.

All that was left was for Thornbury’s banker Craig Webb to finish the night off with a stellar 3-1 victory. The final match score was 16-5 and, with Redland A getting maximum points, this leaves Thornbury with the awkward task of needing 12 points in the final match to secure the championship.

Thornbury B hosted Redland E also in a must-win fixture to stay in Prem C.

Rob Livingstone was finally defeated by his opponent 3-2 in their fourth recent encounter.

Brad Jenkins brushed aside his opponent with an easy 3-0 win. Last minute warrior Nigel Tovey saved the night with a token appearance but lost 3-0.

Mark Toseland won 3-1 so it was down to Justin Edwards for the decider.

After going 2-0 down, he clawed back to 2-2 but crumbled. The overall score was 14-10 to Redland E.

Thornbury C achieved a much-needed 14-7 win this week against David Lloyd Long Ashton. Chris Hutchence was on form and out played his opponent with a comfortable 3-0 win, Cliff Hall again did his usual business with a 3-0 win and captain Ian Johnson, despite a slight wobble in the second game, finished off with a 3-1 win. Dale Curtis struggled to find his usual timing and despite some close games lost 3-0 and Viv Bailey-Gard playing against a higher ranked opponent managed to sneak a game on a tie break to went on to lose 3-1 as Thornbury won 14-7.

Thornbury D travelled to Weston to play against a hugely reinforced team desperately battling to claw themselves out of the relegation zone. Graham Dono and Bill Ellis both struggled against their opponents losing 0-3.

Colin Preece was 0-2 down but at 8-1 up in the third he seemed destined to claw his way back into the match, however he fell apart resulting in another 0-3 loss.

Even Nick Clifton’s endless court sprints were no answer for his classy opponent at number one string and Thornbury lost 3-17 at the end of the match.
