NICK Williams braved the heat and the hills when he raced the ‘Winchcombe Cross Ultra’ in Cotswolds on Sunday, a 50-mile off road race.

Despite the arduous conditions, Nick maintained a constant pace during the four-lap race and was in second position after 37 miles of racing at the end of the third lap.

As the race leader was starting to fade, Nick surged into the lead in the final lap, pressing home his advantage to win the race by over 20 minutes in a fantastic time of eight hours 46:26 mins.

Kevin Arnold has been a regular at the Fleet Half Marathon for over 10 years, which also serves as the Army Half Marathon Championships.

After an injury affected performance last year, Kevin bounced back with his best result since 2011 in 294th place in a time of one hour 35:27 mins.

More importantly for him, his result was good enough for second place in the Army’s M45 age category.

Saturday’s parkrun results included Chris Dawes tackling Pomphrey Hill in 22:11 mins.

Paul Harrod produced a barnstorming 19:15 mins at Chipping Sodbury, a new personal best time. Kevin Wood was next just one second off his PB in 22:11 mins, Suzanne Cundy ran 29:20 mins and Rachel Murphy ran 30 mins.

Andrew Darton ran under 20 mins for the first time at Thornbury in 19:52 mins in fourth place, followed by Karen Carr in 29:27 mins, Peter Blenkiron broke his PB for two weeks in a row in 29:30 mins, Brian Godsman 50:40 mins and Rebecca Dunsford 50:40 mins.

Thornbury RC continues to grow and has just reached 150 members, with an almost 50:50 split between men and women and 24 new recruits since new year.
