NEWLY-FORMED Stinchcombe Stragglers U11s took on Minchinhampton in their first ever game of cricket.

On a sunny evening, Stragglers won the toss and elected to bowl, which looked a great decision on the Minch pitch, with Ollie Jackson taking 2 wickets in his first over.

The whole Stragglers team of Bea and Bess Higton, Lewis Savage, Charlie Bean, Finley Peake, Freddie Pickard and captain Ollie Jackson bowled and fielded well, with Roan Young on top form behind the stumps. Minchinhampton finished with a total of 175.

Stragglers started their innings strongly with not losing any early wickets a real bonus and after the halfway 8-overs mark it was very close.

Some good hitting from Bess Higton, Freddie Pickard and Roan Young got them close to the total but with some late wickets going down, the Stragglers came up a little short, finishing 29 runs behind their hosts.

Pat Young, Stragglers Chairman said: "It was great to see all the kids on both teams having a fun game and really enjoying the cricket.

"It is so nice to see Stinchcombe Stragglers CC back fielding a youth team in the Stroud League after nearly 20 years away, the future is looking very positive at the club."
