THE SUN has finally set on what must be the most memorable season in Thornbury Town Football Club’s long history.

After becoming champions of the Marcliff Gloucestershire County League with five games to spare and by a 15 point margin, they put the icing on the cake by completing a League and Cup double by beating Frampton United 1-0 in the Les James League Cup Final last Saturday.

The players, management and supporters celebrated their achievements at the club’s end of season presentation evening at Thornbury Cricket Club on Friday evening with both the Championship and League Cup trophies proudly on display.

They were able to reflect on the records the first team have set this season with a run of 15 consecutive wins and only three defeats all season whilst being the League’s leading scorers at the same time as having the meanest defence.

Club president Paul Wisbey entertained the large gathering with his “reflections” on various aspects of the season before making a couple of unusual awards to Nathan Sage and Toby Bennett, whilst chairman Andy Shutler presented Mike Smith with a keg of ale in recognition of his help during the course of the season.

As is usual, various Player of the Year awards were made with James Davies presenting the Reserve Team Manager’s Player of the Year Award to Mike Grove, whilst the Reserve Team’s Players’ Player of the Year Award went to youngster Archie Griffiths who has taken the step up from U16 football to Stroud League in his stride.

The first team awards were shared around with Craig Lancastle receiving the Players Player of The Year award whilst Brandon Benjamin (pictured) won the Supporters Player of The Year.

First team manager Andy Davies presented the Manager’s Award to skipper Pete Fowler who did not miss a single game all season.

The Clubman of the Year Award was presented to manager Andy Davies who led the side to such a remarkable double. His sides have now won the County League title and the League Cup twice with three fourth placed finishes in his four seasons in charge at the Mundys.

The Presidents Trophy was awarded to Malcolm Carr for his efforts in keeping the Reserve team running at the start of the season.

An award was also made to Craig Lancastle, who has now scored over one hundred goals for the club, in just four years. Craig also won the County League Golden Boot Award after scoring 43 goals this season.

Awards were also made to Nathan Irwin, Mark Viner and Pete Fowler to recognise the fact that they have each played over four hundred games for the first team, a wonderful achievement at this level of football and testament to their consistency over the seasons.
