Thornbury Running Club news

WITH an emphasis on completion rather than competition, Monday's race is a half-marathon on the undulating road around Loch Eriboll.

In hot conditions, Judy Mills finished in 2 hours 14 mins 33 sec.

This was followed by a 5-mile cross-country run on Tuesday which she ran with a friend, completing in 53 mins 1 second. Wednesday's run was a multi-terrain and hilly 10-miles around the village of Durness, including lochside, track, golf course and sand-dune and took 1 hour 51 mins 27 secs.

Both Judy Mills and Pete Mainstone took part in the 3-mile fun-run on Thursday with many runners in fancy dress, then on Saturday the run was a full 26.2-mile marathon to the Cape Wrath Lighthouse and return.

Again the weather was warm and dry, but tough underfoot as the track becomes noticeably more eroded, year on year, with loose stones and potholes, making it another challenge to watch both your feet and the scenery.

Of the 100 runners who finished, Mills was 78th in 5 hours, 14 mins 49 secs.

Saturday’s parkrun results included Mark Grimsey who ran 26:36 at Burnham and Highbridge.

At Chipping Sodbury Kevin Wood ran well in 22:18 mins, closely followed by Kevin Cundy in a new personal best of 22:22 mins and Chris Dawes in 22:24 mins. Emma Pritchard was next in 28:13 mins, Clare Evans 29:49 mins and Suzanne Cundy in 29:52 mins.

After the prolonged good weather, the firmer off-road Thornbury parkrun course has now started to produce some much quicker times and a host of personal bests. Paul Harrod was 4th finisher in new PB of 19:53 mins, followed by Laura Orna who was 3rd woman in a PB of 22:47 mins.

Other results on the day included Sean Underwood 23:51 mins, Rachael Underwood 25:20 mins, Brian Godsman 25:58 mins, Colette Jackson 26:16 mins, Malcolm Carr 26:54 mins, Peter Blenkiron 28:12 mins, Richard Illingworth 30:28 mins, Nigel Hale 30:44 mins, Tracy Popplewell 36:46 mins, Carol Mosses 43:36 mins and Terry Robinson 47:17 mins.
