IT is a case of all change at Thornbury RFC for next season as there were significant changes following the annual general meeting held last week as all senior captains and the chairman of the club stood down from their positions.

Hooker Sam Evans, who had represented Gloucestershire in the County Championship earlier in the month, is the new captain of the first team that competes in the Tribute South West One West league.

He is taking over the reigns from back row forward Liam Pemberton who has stood down after four seasons leading the side.

Robin Harrison is the new second XV captain following Steve Allington, who steps down after several seasons, with former club captain Stuart Adams taking over from the hard-working Richard Daniell as third team skipper.

Sadie Giles, who became the Ladies XV captain during the season, continues in that role for the coming season during which the Thornbees will compete in league rugby for the first time.

The new chairman is Geoff Sprackman, who steps up from his role as vice-chairman following Michael Tinney’s decision to stand down as chairman.

He will have plenty to do as the club looks to build on the successes off and on the field of recent seasons.

There are plans to extend the changing rooms to accommodate the expansion of ladies rugby and to improve the medical facilities at the club which will help build player welfare for the seniors and juniors.

Meanwhile, Thornbury's senior team have three pre-season games lined up.

They will play home games against a Gloucester President’s XV and Old Halesonians, arranged together with a mid-week visit to Cleve.

With the first league match scheduled for September 1, the players will begin early season training in June.
