Football: Nelmes makes up for mistake in Hallen draw

RICHARD Nelmes helped Hallen rescue a point after his earlier mistake had gifted the visitors the lead.

After four minutes, Hallen had a corner on the right where Andy Cook's precision pass was drilled to Ronnie Mowatt's head, but he couldn't rise fast enough in order to direct the opportunity more accurately.

On ten minutes it was Hallen again when Malik Sarr intercepted a pass meant for a team-mate, took two strides forward, and unleashed a low screamer from 30 yards. The ball was destined for the bottom corner but the keeper did well to get a finger tip on it and concede a corner.

Midway through the half Hallen should have taken the lead after Jason Reynolds chased a lost cause deep into the right corner to create an opportunity. Upon retrieving the ball, he laid it back to Andy Cook who showed great vision to find Jazz Bright alone on the far post with a precision cross. Bright only had to knock the ball in from six yards, but somehow he pulled the ball the wrong side of the post.

Similar to the first half, the second period started with the visitors cutting in from the left and firing a shot across Scannell's goal but wide of the far post.

On the hour Welton took the lead by capitalising on a mistake from Nelmes who allowed Welton to pass the ball a couple of times in the box before a left-footed strike from 12 yards saw the ball enter the roof of the net.

Hallen only had to wait six minutes before they were back on level terms thanks to Nelmes making amends by clipping a ball over the central defender where Jason Reynolds took the ball around the keeper before passing into an empty net.
