A MORE determined squad effort with passion saw Thornbury Town bring to an end their recent losing run with an entertaining 0-0 home draw against Highridge United. Town manager Dave Lippiatt asked for more belief and dogged determination from his team and the response from the whole squad was instantly evident. A clean sheet was the order of the day and with Ricki Lippiatt returning to his more usual position at the heart of the defence and Peter Fowler keeping watch in the centre of the mid-field Highridge found it difficult to find any way through. Normally 0-0 draws can be recorded as being boring however this game was far from that.

Both teams were keen to take all three points and in a game with very few bad tackles both teams were reduced to ten men shortly before the half time whistle for the only heated period of the game, which resulted in heads coming together. With halftime looming Highridge should have taken the lead when a close range headed at force was superbly turned over the bar by the Thornbury keeper.

In the second period Steve Alexander had the best of the Thornbury chances going close on three separate occasions and Man of the Match Adam Harley was a constant threat with searching runs from his right back position. In the dying minutes left back Sam Lippiatt came to the rescue of Town with a goal-line clearance with Highridge streaming forward. The game ended 0-0 and the points shared but it was the much improved attitude and performance by the whole Thornbury squad that put the smiles back on everyone’s face. This Saturday Town have no 1st team game as they prepare for their home quarter final cup encounter against local rivals Yate Town on Saturday, November 29 with a 2pm kick off.
