THE second successful Old Down Kwik Cricket Festival was held at The Park, Old Down Cricket Club last week. Eight year 6 teams from six local Primary schools participated in a fun event designed to promote cricket at Primary School level. Old Down has worked closely with Filton High and Marlwood Secondary schools to organise the event.

Organiser John Peplow said: “It’s been a great afternoon, over 80 boys and girls have experienced playing cricket here today and hopefully many of them will want to continue to play in the future.

“It’s been really good working with the schools and the clubs aim is to strengthen and further develop these links.”

The competition was organised into two leagues and the two winners were Oveston and St Michael’s, who then played in the final.

In a closely fought, high quality game, St Michaels came out winners by 30 runs. Sandra Marsh, School Sports Co-ordinator, said: “A big thank you to Old Down for organising the event, it’s great to see so many children enjoying playing cricket.”

The participating schools were Almondsbury C of E Primary , Charborough Road Primary, Severn Beach Primary, St Peter’s C of E Primary, St Michael’s C of E Primary and Olveston C of E Primary.
