Brunel Division One: Lydney 2nds 1 Thornbury 0

THORNBURY’S recent winning run came to a disappointing end at Lydney.

Apart from a couple of pleasing passages of play Thornbury played second fiddle to the home side.

An early shot from Charlotte Cockerton was well saved by the home keeper and with Sophie Wilkins in fine form, the home side were denied in the first period.

Thornbury reverted to trying to beat the player instead of letting the ball do the work and Lydney capitalised, taking the lead early in the second half.

Amanda Ponting, Elaine Dreyton and Alison Parry-Jones were effective in defence for Thornbury but the constant home pressure took its toll.

Charlotte Macleod contributed a lot in midfield and Rachel Gardiner probed on numerous occasions before retiring with a leg injury.

Zoe Barnett had a golden opportunity to level the scores in the last minute but her shot from a short corner flashed wide.

Thornbury have a tough game on Saturday at home to leaders Bristol University 2nds, 3 30pm at Castle School.
