Football: Bridson brace seals Almondsbury win

4:54pm Wednesday 3rd March 2010

DEFENDER Lee Bridson scored a second half brace as Almondsbury Town kept up the pressure on league leaders Reading Town with an emphatic win at Kindlington last night.

In an even first half, Kidlington took the lead through a free kick after a handball by Bridson but that only appeared to kick-start the Almonds into action.

The visitors equalised just before half-time when Marcus Mapstone headed in from a free kick.

Almondsbury came out firing in the second half and went ahead after a great cross field ball by Ross Stearn and Aaron Blakemore took one touch before volleying a spectacular effort into the net.

They scored their last two in the last 15 minutes as Bridson found space in the box from corners to head home on both occasions.

Almondsbury boss Richard Thompson said: “The second half performance was the best since I’ve been there, we were absolutely superb.

“If we can play anything like our second half display for the rest of the season then we certainly won’t be far away.

“Kidlington have beat Shortwood and Reading so we knew it would be tricky, it was one I had earmarked as a possible draw or loss, so to come away with three points is a bonus.”
