THORNBURY caused the league leaders a number of problems and would have been ahead in the first half if their scoring opportunities had been taken.
Amanda Ponting, playing out of position, was very solid in defence for the home side and Alison Parry-Jones and Charlotte Macleod also produced sensible defensive displays.
The super fit students started the second half in control and took the lead.
Thornbury replied almost immediately when Shelley Beurschgens found herself unmarked in front of goal and gave the keeper no chance when guiding home a cross from Charlotte Cockerton.
Play see-sawed from end to end with both sides having opportunities.
However with time running out, Thornbury lost possession in the University half and a quick through ball found Jess Smith unmarked and she hammered home to frustrate a game home side.
