Rockhampton won the annual village Sixes competition for the first time in eight years.

An extremely successful two weeks climaxed in a finals night with two semis between the top four sides in the area; Stone, Thornbury, Alveston and Rockhampton.

Drawing what seemed the toughest side of the night and then seeing Stone putting in a strong performance to beat Alveston, the Rams looked like having an uphill struggle.

However, setting a solid target of 74 and then knocking over three Thornbury wickets early following tight bowling from the Belbin brothers - Matt and Rob - the Rams fancied their chances.

A fantastic final over from Will Cartlidge then secured the win.

The final, against Stone, started well again for the Rams, with a superb 50 from Matt Belbin, going on to set another good score of 79.

Stone got off to a good start, gaining 39 from the first two overs, but then very economical third and fourth overs from Turrell and Rob Belbin, left Stone needing 16 off Cartlidge’s final over.

A massive six first ball gave Stone the upper hand, but Cartlidge pulled it back leaving them six runs short of the target.

James Hancox and Jack Spence for organised the competition and Matthew Riddle presented the shield.
