Southern League 2010/11 season preview with ALmondsbury Town striker Marvin Brown

MARVIN BROWN is looking to make a big impact at Almondsbury Town. The 27-year-old striker arrives at Oaklands Park for their first season in Zamaretto League Division One South & West with an impressive CV, having started his career at Bristol City and playing for clubs such as Cheltenham Town, Torquay United and Salisbury City.

Brown played for Truro City in the Southern League Premier Division last season, but recently setup a coaching business called Bristol Pro Soccer, which provides after school and curricular time coaching at schools, and was looking for a more local club.

After turning down offers from clubs in higher divisions, Brown is certainly confident in his own ability to make an impact this season.

He said: "If I didn’t get 15 goals I feel it would be a bad season but that depends on how the season goes, me staying fit and we need to keep the main players fit to push on.

"I expect to score a few goals or if not play well in the rest of the matches.

"I think I can bring a lot to the team with my experience."

Brown has been with Almondsbury for the whole pre-season campaign and believes they could mount a play-off challenge this season.

"I’ve never played at this level so I don’t know the teams well that we will be playing against but if we keep everyone fit I can’t see why we can’t be pushing at least in the top half," he said.

"If we can get in the play-offs I’m sure we will give it a good go."

"The lads have been very good and we’ve got quite a few good players so I’m confident."

Brown admits he knew little about Almondsbury Town before the club was recommended to him by many people, including former Bristol Rovers and City striker Peter Beadle.

"I knew they won the league last year and I knew a few of the players," he said.

"I never knew the manager (Richard Thompson) but I heard good things so I thought I would go down.

"There were a few other clubs interested but this was my first choice due to its location.

"In the situation I’m in at the moment it’s worked really well for me so hopefully I can bring something to the club."
