Scott Wilson signs schoolboy forms at Bristol City

Filton College Football Development programme is celebrating success before the League season starts.

Player of the Year Scott Wilson has just signed schoolboy forms for Bristol City and will make his Academy debut in the first league match against the Newcastle United.

Head Coach, Simon Panes said: “I am delighted for Scott and it’s something he deserves.

“It is ironic that Scott joined us after being released from City.

“I had been reminding John Clayton (Bristol City Academy Director) throughout last season of Scott’s performances with us and perhaps they needed to have another look at him.

“They did, and after an excellent pre-season the club made Scott an offer. I have no doubt that Scott will end up scoring a lot of goals in professional football.”

Filton College’s Football Academy also won the renowned Keele International Cup -formerly known as the Umbro Cup - at Keele University, Staffordshire.

The competition is Britain’s largest international football tournament with over 200 teams from 15 nations.

Filton College was entered into the U18 Professional group with seven other teams including Shrewsbury Town, Ulster Boys and Lyn FC from Oslom Norway.

Filton secured a place in the final in their last group game against Mossley Hill when came out on top 2-1 with goals from Eugene Keary and Chas Hemmings.

Keary’s 30-yard strike had to be an early contender for goal of the season.

In the final, Filton faced Lyn FC from Norway.

Filton College broke Lyn’s defensive effort after 25 minutes when captain Jemal Williams scored with a far post header.

In the second half, Lyn FC started to push players forward but were caught on the break, which led to a goal for Mike Rimmer with five minutes to go.

The match finished with a 2-0 victory to Filton College.

Panes said: “This was certainly a great achievement to win such a prestigious tournament. Credit must go to all the players plus coach Alex Ball and strength and conditioning coach Graham Williams.

“This victory certainly bodes well for a successful season.”
