Sally Conway wins -70kg title at Senior British Closed Championships

THORNBURY’S Sally Conway took the -70kg crown at the Senior British Closed Championships on Sunday at EIS Sheffield.

The 24-year-old gave her hopes of representing Great Britain in this year’s Olympics a boost by beating Gemma Gibbons in the final to win the title for the second year in a row.

Conway is part of British Judo’s Olympic Squad, but her place at London 2012 is not guaranteed yet as she faces competition from Gibbons and Megan Fletcher.

The 27-strong squad was announced in December with judoka required to be in the top 100 on the World Ranking List to merit selection.
