CASTLE SCHOOL student Rosie Allen won a silver medal at the National Triathlon Championships.

Allen qualified to represent the South West in the event which took place at Hetton Lyons Country Park in Sunderland.

She competed in the under-13 age group race, where they had to complete a 250m open water swim, followed by a 6km bike course and finally a 2km run.

Allen maintained a strong position throughout the race in all disciplines, clearly demonstrating a huge amount of determination and great competitiveness. She finished just seven seconds behind the winner in second place with a time of 23 minutes, 14 seconds.

Allen also currently holds the title of the South Open Water Triathlon champion. Castle School teacher Jo Williams said: “Rosie has had a successful year on the triathlon circuit, which is a credit to her dedication towards a challenging training schedule, ensuring she maintains her strength and endurance throughout the swim, bike and run in all events.

“There is no doubt that Rosie has a bright future ahead of her in triathlon and these titles are the start of many to come.”
