Stroud and District Table Tennis League round-up
11:00am Saturday 23rd February 2013 in Yate and Sodbury Sport
DIVISION THREE’S bottom side Thornbury C collected much needed points in holding Cam and Dursley B to 5-5, thanks to a maximum from Graham Eden.
His three and one each from his team-mates put them in a position to win the match, but the Cam players were to steal the doubles in a five set tussle. Randwick B’s attempt to get closer to the leaders was stalled after their visit to Frampton C saw them come up against the in-form Kim Selfe, whose unbeaten evening earned her side a creditable 5-5 draw.
Several close games were played out with all the Randwick players gaining points, but the crucial doubles went to Frampton after being two sets down but taking the next three.
Thornbury A moved up to third place in Division One with an 8-2 victory over bottom side Nailsworth Phoenix A, as Len Vowles and Julian Elsbury both returned to form with maximums.
Woodchester A beat Frampton A 8-2. However, Frampton’s Simon Ward put in an excellent performance by beating both Dave Lloyd and James Ashton on the night. Whiteshill Vets A had a resounding 9-1 victory over Frampton B and now look unstoppable for the Division Two title.
Alan Perratt won the single point in reply, beating Rupert Harris to avoid the whitewash. Second placed Nailsworth Phoenix B had a close match with Thornbury B but managed to secure a 6-4 victory. In Division Four, Woodchester E were only able to field two players against Frampton D.
Despite taking three singles matches they were unable to prevent Frampton from sharing the singles points and a 7-3 match victory.
