FROMESIDE gymnast Oriel Powell became the national bars champion and won a silver medal overall at the National Compulsory Level 3 Finals.

The ten-year-old competed as a member of the South West team in the competition, held in Birmingham, which saw 45 of the best Level 3 Women’s Artistic gymnasts born in 2003 competing for 13 regions across Great Britain.

Powell completed excellent, clean and confident routines throughout the four apparatus and range and conditioning set.

Her hard work was rewarded with outstanding results, coming second overall after finishing third on vault, second on beam and first on the asymmetric bars, to win that title for her second consecutive national finals competition.

This result has provided a good start to Powell’s year and is an excellent score to take through to the second national finals competition to be held in November.

The combined scores from these two competitions will determine the gymnasts’ UK rankings for 2013 and selections for national squad places for 2014.
