Calor Southern League Division One South & West: Didcot Town 2 Yate Town 0
5:55pm Monday 9th September 2013 in Yate and Sodbury Sport
YATE TOWN suffered their second defeat on the bounce at Didcot Town.
The two teams were evenly matched in the opening exchanges but the poor conditions of the pitch didn't help as they resorted to playing long balls.
Lewis Haldane had Yate's first good chance, when his free kick from the edge of the box was heading into the bottom corner, but was saved brilliantly by Didcot ‘s debutant goalkeeper Kieran Beesley.
The deadlock was broken on 28 minutes when Didcot winger Jermaine Ferreira found space on the right hand side and crossed the ball low to the back post, where Louis Joyce poked it in.
Haldane and Mike Bryant had further good opportunities for Yate but were denied by Beesley.
Joe Chandler had to be replaced by Nuno Felix at half time after he picked up a knock and could not continue.
Yate started the second half brightly and created more clear-cut chances but Didcot looked very dangerous on the counter and doubled their lead on 51 minutes when defender Luke Carnell rose highest from an Adam Morris free kick to head home.
Ross Staley had a brilliant chance to get one back for Yate and maybe force a comeback when he turned the defender but his shot was saved brilliantly again by Beesley, who made further saves from Haldane and Ricky Hulbert.
However, Didcot held on for their first league win of the season and things could have been worse for Yate if Ferreira had not blasted over from close range.
Yate Town: Horsell, Cox, Seery, Chandler (Felix 45), Harrison, Harmer (Meaker 80), Abraham, Bryant (c), Staley, Jackson (Hulbert 70), Haldane.
Yate will be looking to bounce back when they face Chippenham Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday at Lodge Road (3pm).
