Calor Southern League Division One South & West: Cinderford Town 1 Yate Town 2
2:06pm Tuesday 24th September 2013 in Yate and Sodbury Sport
YATE TOWN picked up their first away win of the season at Cinderford.
Second-half goals from Lewis Haldane and Mike Bryant were enough for the Bluebells to leapfrog their opponents and end a run of three straight league defeats.
Although Cinderford striker Lewis Sommers was denied by goalkeeper Martin Horsell early on, Yate created the better chances in the first-half.
A Ross Staley cross was met by a powerful Ricky Hulbert header and brilliantly saved one handed by Alex Harris, who was also well positioned shortly afterwards to keep out a Haldane strike following a quick Yate break. Bryant then missed a good chance when he fired wide from Staley’s centre and Hulbert somehow failed to score from point-blank range.
After the break, a fine reflex stop from Harris prevented Bryant’s strike from going in, while at the other end Horsell produced a fantastic save to keep out Simon Prangley’s effort.
Yate broke the deadlock on 68 minutes when substitute Jordan Rogers flicked the ball on to Haldane, who slid the ball under Harris. Cinderford debutant George Lloyd then forced a fine stop from Horsell before Yate doubled their advantage on 83 minutes when Staley’s free kick into the box found Bryant, who headed home. Andy Lewis pulled a goal back for Cinderford two minutes later when he smashed the ball into the net following a Sommers knock down.
Sommers then struck the bar as Cinderford pressed for an equaliser but Yate held on.
