Josh Dempsey joins Cadbury Heath from Yate Town
GOALKEEPER Josh Dempsey has left Yate to join Western League Premier Division side Cadbury Heath.
The 25-year-old started the season as number one, but struggled for form and was dropped after three games with new signing Martin Horsell taking his place.
Dempsey was plucked out of the local football scene by Yate during the 2009-10 season and left shortly before the start of last season to join Chippenham, but returned within a month and produced a series of superb performances during their cup run.
Yate manager Rob Cousins said: “Josh Dempsey has left the club as he was becoming more and more frustrated with the lack of game time he was having. Myself and Meaks (Michael Meaker, assistant manager) didn’t want him to leave. We both felt that we needed two quality keepers especially after last year when we had to use three keepers within the first seven games.
“We were fortunate to start this season with two keepers in Josh and Martin Horsell.
"They were both told that they would have to fight for the position like any other player in the team and we hoped to keep them both.
“Myself and Meaks discuss and decide on team selection together and at the time of Josh making his decision to leave, Martin was shading it as our first choice keeper. We would like to thank Josh for his services to Yate Town and wish him all the very best in the future.”
Matt Groves and Scott Wilson will return to Yate with Gloucester City in the FA Cup.
Both scored in the Conference North side’s 3-2 replay win over Havant and Waterlooville on Tuesday night to set up a mouth-watering third qualifying round tie at Lodge Road on Saturday, October 12.
Yate are away to Merthyr Town, who are currently playing at Cinderford’s ground, in the FA Trophy Preliminary Round on Saturday.
In the event of a draw, the replay at Yate will take precedence over their visit to Fleet Town in Division One South and West of the Southern League on Tuesday (7.45pm).
